ABOUT ME

Cindy Wittenberg, pianist

Cindy Keller Wittenberg began playing the piano at the age of four when her musical mother taught her to play 4-part harmony hymns and songs at home then studied with Merl Freeland, Julliard graduate, in Lebanon, PA. Accompanying and soloing were her forte throughout her high school years, at Elizabethtown College, Elizabethtown, PA, earning a B.S. Music Education and at Peabody Conservatory (John Hopkins University/Peabody Institute,) Baltimore, MD, earning a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance. She studied under John Harrison at Elizabethtown College and Fernando Laires at Peabody Conservatory.

(On the non-musical side, she played on the field hockey team at Elizabethtown College and Lancaster summer league until her piano professor found out.) During a summer abroad, Cindy studied piano at Mozarteum University in Salzburg, Austria. 

She taught keyboard music theory in the Preparatory Department at Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, MD to high school senior piano students in a Yamaha 24-piano classroom. In her own junior high and high school years, she was bassoonist in 5 District Bands, District Orchestra, Regional Orchestra and State Band.

 

Mrs. Wittenberg (Miss Keller) taught middle school choral and classroom music at Penn Manor School District, Lancaster County, PA for three years. Her middle school choir grew to 150 students throughout those years as she simultaneously directed and accompanied her choir students, teaching them to love singing and inspiring them to continue on with their own music talents. After marrying and moving on from public school teaching, she opened a private piano studio in her home where she continued to instruct students for 35 years.

 

cindy studied pipe organ throughout high school and college and was organist at several churches throughout Lancaster and Lebanon County, PA. For eight years, she was pianist and choir accompanist at Manor Church in Mountville, PA.

For ten years she was a member of Lancaster Symphony Orchestra as pianist and keyboardist and has served as accompanist for Lancaster Symphony Chorus, vocalists, choirs, and instrumentalists.     

​

Cindy is the pianist, composer, and an arranger with Silver, Wood & Ivory, a concertizing duo specializing in flutes, recorders, and other wind instruments. She performs piano, keyboards, and Celtic harp with the duo. They have performed at American Music Theater with their own show, QVC, and have recorded 15 albums available on their website www.silverwoodandivory.com. Silver, Wood & Ivory frequently hosts dinner and luncheon concerts in the Lititz area and are regularly featured in concert series programs throughout southeastern Pennsylvania.

  

In addition, Cindy performed monthly (pre-pandemic) as an artist with Center Stage Arts in the Cancer Center and Infusion Therapy wing at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and College of Medicine, Hershey, PA.

Cindy and her husband, Dale, live in Lititz, PA and have a son, daughter-in-law and four grandchildren.
